Bio Gilbert “Gil” Grissom was born on August 17, 1956, in Santa Monica, California. His family was one of both magic and science, with both a witch and a wizard as parents. Gils father, a herbology and potions expert, died when he was nine years old, and his deaf mother, an artist, raised him alone, never remarrying. His mother taught Gil magic on her own, rejecting multiple offers for more formal teaching at American acadames, until one day Gil caught her recieving a Hogwarts scholarship, to come learn abroad. Delighted at the chance for new horizons, Gil took the chance and left his mothers home for England, where he finished his schooling, and post-graduate work. Fascinated by the magic and skill of a detective Auror, Gil applied himself to great reward in school, and recieved laureates in forensic magics from several governing bodies of law enforcement, mostly thanks to his trademark novel approach; an objective, scientific application of magic. Specifically, Gil holds an interest in entomology, or the study of insects and their life cycles, which he often applies to his work, to great effect. Gil became a supervisor for the Las Vegas-based forensics team, and maintained that position for several years before accepting a higher paying, more challenging position in England. Recently he’s experienced heavy burn-out from the increasing case-work thanks to the rising number of magical murders in relation to the so-called ‘Dark Lord Voldemort.’ He is no longer a young man, and so has decided to take a sabatical from his regular work and to fill a short-term teaching position at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This nostalgic setting and the good he could do for future generations more than outweigh the limited satisfaction to be gained by a phantom enemy that no Auror to date has yet seen alive, and so Gil plans to take his retirement from active forensic and detective Auror work pending his impressions of the Hogwarts teaching position. To whit; if all goes well, he’d like to stay on. This is a class based in a healthy understanding of the forensic and crime-related angle of Auror work, specifically focused on cases in which either a murder or violent assault has taken place. There is an associated club in the works, complete with graphic hands-on work, field trips to released crime scenes, and hands on work parallel to a real investigation. The class itself includes both hypothetical and taken-from-life lessons, in which the focus is on correct methodology and modes of thinking. There are no prerequisites for this class, however, students who haven't taken charms lately may wish to brush up, as a lot of detailed spellcasting will go on in the classroom.  SortedWhen Gil went to Hogwarts he was happily sorted into the Ravenclaw house and maintains a cheerful preference for them in sporting events. To suggest he favored them in the classroom is a grave insult, and not to be taken lightly. 
The Wood: With the exception of the mysterious elder, the Birch is the earliest of the forest trees. Though they make beautiful, smooth wands with a nice sheen if polished, birch is nevertheless known for it's 'flaky' qualities. The bearer of this wand could not be more different, in fact those who find a Birch wand has chosen them tend to be some of the most logical thinkers or strategists. These wands excel at driving out evil spirits, and for Purification spells. The Core: Unicorn Hair is best for those with pure intentions, and is almost never wielded by someone intending to use their wand for evil purposes. |
